Helpful staff. Great educational and informative video. We got info and PDF map and went deep into some of the grassland property that's open to public use and found some cool rocks and awesome evening views.
Friendly place, dog friendly too (although mine was a bit spooked by the taxidermy blackfooted ferret). They've got information on the grasslands and a short(ish) video with historical information on the region. Went in hoping for maps and camping info. The map is expensive but they'll tell you to download a free app - the app is pretty good.
Hidden gem, with super friendly staff and a fascinating insight into the history (and future) of the grasslands.
We had a great time at this visitors center and our children learned a lot!
As others have stated this is a hidden gem. I have had extended visits to the Black Hills and missed it in the past. Visited with young kids this time and glad I found it. My daughter really liked earning Jr Ranger pins at other parks and we saw someone with one from here so looked it up. It is not a flashy or huge place, but has interesting exhibits and helpful staff. Much less stressful sensory experience than Wall Drug!
